Marleen van Oeveren

Pharmacist

Marleen van Oeveren is a pharmacist prescriber specialising in the rational use of psychiatric medications and deprescribing. She holds a Master of Pharmacy from the University of Western Australia, and postgraduate qualifications in Psychiatric Therapeutics from Aston University and a Pharmacist Prescriber certificate from the University of Otago.

Marleen’s work focuses on helping people make informed, considered decisions about psychiatric medication, and safe deprescribing for those wanting to come off their medication. She’s particularly passionate about informed consent, and about how medication and psychology interact — shaping the course of therapy, people’s beliefs about themselves and their health, and their psychological state more broadly.

Marleen offers standalone medication reviews, as well as joint deprescribing reviews alongside Valerie Tan. These joint reviews bring together the pharmacological and psychological sides of withdrawal — addressing the practical aspects of tapering alongside the emotional and psychological support needed to cope with the process. She accepts internal referrals for standalone reviews and accepts internal referrals or GP referrals for joint reviews.
